Our projects

Life keeps on going in Ukraine with hundreds of babies being born daily.  However, the consequences of war have led to a rise in premature births and complicated deliveries. These babies need special care, particularly in the challenging winter months, while their parents need heartwarming support and solidarity.

Premature babies can suffer from subcooling when the temperature is getting low. Together with Early Birds, a Ukrainian Association of Parents of Prematurely Born Children operating since 2016, Zuerich hilft der Ukraine ZhdU plans to provide warmth to these fragile “early birds”.

With CHF 50, you can support a premature baby in Ukraine with warmers, baby sleeping bags and other essentials

With the support of the Swiss Taskforce for Ukrainian Healthcare, which includes "H+ the Hospitals of Switzerland", we would like to raise 20,000 Swiss francs to improve rehabilitation therapy in Ukraine with Luna Physio by Sensopro. "Zuerich hilft der Ukraine ZhdU" is taking care of the logistics and will deliver the equipment directly to the beneficiary healthcare facilities, the Modrychi Rehabilitation Centre and the Ohmatdyt Children's Hospital.

A bundle of warmth for newborns

Parents and newborns in Ukrainian maternity hospitals have a hard time. Electricity is only available by the hour in some areas. Water and heat supplies are not always guaranteed and are interrupted several times a day. Generators prevent the worst - especially in the cold winter. With just 50 Swiss francs, donors were able to help a baby in Ukraine survive the winter by financing a thermal sleeping bag and a heat dispenser. Made possible with the help of Hack4Health, the Swiss Taskforce for Ukrainian Healthcare and Rany Ptashky.

Medical devices for neonatology

Infant warming systems are used in the care and monitoring of premature and newborn infants. ZhdU delivered to clinics and hospitals in the Ukrainian cities of Sumy, Pokrovsk, and Mykolaiv. The infant warming systems from Switzerland create a warm environment. Temperature measurements provide early indications of temperature fluctuations and can be observed on the display.

Wheelchairs and more thanks to medical network

In October 2022, we loaded a 40-tons-truck with almost hundreds of wheelchairs, walkers and medical equipment, including an X-ray machine, nebuliser, hospital furniture and medical beds. The donations were made possible through the synergies of our medical network, in particular the Swiss Taskforce for Support to the Ukrainian Healthcare System and trough H+, the national umbrella organisation of Swiss public and private hospitals, clinics and care institutions in Switzerland.

ZhdU campaign

The earmarked donation of a private benefactor enabled ZhdU to launch a campaign. On posters, committed ZhdU volunteers called on Swiss civil society to send urgently needed humanitarian aid to the ZhdU collection point conveniently via online shopping. In videos, the volunteers told why they are involved with ZhdU and what inspires them. The implementation of the campaign was made possible by the generous pro bono work of Zurich creatives

Collection campaigns in front of Coop

Our collection campaigns in front of the Coop store in Zurich’s Albisriederstrasse were a great success. ZhdU volunteers provided information at the entrance about what the people in Ukraine most urgently need. On the way out, donations could be handed in. This resulted in an average of 600 kg of food, hygiene products and pet food per day. We were overwhelmed by the many donations and our supporters were grateful for the low-threshold opportunity to show solidarity.

An ambulance for Donetsk

Grégoire, a paramedic from Geneva, donated a fully equipped ambulance to ZhdU. A brave ZhdU volunteer drove it to the Ukrainian border. There, the ambulance was prepared for use on the front lines, including a repaint so that it would not be noticed in the war zone. The ambulance is used in the Donetsk region, where injured and sick people in danger of dying are treated and transported.

First aid kits for war-affected people

In war, medical care is not guaranteed at all times. This is particularly hard on civilians who suffer injuries due to sudden military attacks. ZhdU has therefore put together Individual First Aid Kits (IFAK) worth CHF 3,500. The first aid kits contained bandages, tourniquets, haemostatic agents and other medical supplies to stabilise and treat injuries.
