Fundraiser

Life in Ukraine goes on, with hundreds of babies born every day. However, the consequences of the war have led to an increase in premature births and complicated deliveries. These babies need special care, especially during the difficult winter months. Their parents depend on heartwarming support and solidarity.

Premature babies can suffer from hypothermia when temperatures drop. Together with Early Birds, a Ukrainian organization of parents of premature babies that has been active since 2016, ZhdU is planning to provide these vulnerable "preemies" with warmth.

With 50 francs you can support a premature baby in Ukraine with hot water bottles, baby sleeping bags and other essential items*.

*The support bundle includes a warmer, a baby sleeping bag, newborn clothes, pampers, blankets, a therapy toy, and a guide for parents. The items will be bought from Ukrainian suppliers to contribute to the local economy.

For 3 consecutive years, the Fit for Winter campaign organized by ZhdU has brought life-saving warmth and care to premature babies in Ukraine, particularly during the harsh winter months. This initiative, in collaboration with Early Birds, a Ukrainian association supporting parents of prematurely born children, has delivered close to 500 essential care packages.

The campaign has been made possible through the unwavering support of partner organizations and the generosity of donors worldwide. Contributions can be made via TWINT or bank transfer.

A mother's story

Zakhar & Vasylinka

My story begins with the fact that my little ones, Zakhar and Vasylinka, were born prematurely. For every mother, for every family, this is an incredible pain. The pain of not knowing what will happen to your babies tomorrow, in an hour, in a minute. From the very first cry of these little angels, from their first breath, I clearly understood that I love them so much.
I saw my babies for the first time a day after they were born. I couldn’t be with them because of my health condition, and the doctor from the intensive care unit took photos of my newborns for me.

Our first meeting took place two days later. The first meeting, the first touches, the first worries...
the countdown… 3 days of relief… 7 days of relief… The first 10 days The crisis passed… endless happiness. It felt like a whole eternity had gone by.

Time passed… During that time, Vasylinka went through a blood transfusion, anemia, infection,
low weight. But I knew that she, just like her father, is strong and brave. She endured it, overcame all the difficulties. A true warrior woman Probably, her daddy is protecting her from heaven, because more than anything he wanted to have a daughter.

Zakhar was gaining weight a bit better. Everything was going as it should. After 20 days, Zakharwas transferred to the intensive care unit. And then the question appeared — what to dress my little boy in. Olena Yukhymivna, the head of the intensive care unit, told me that there is an organization that provides a package of help for premature babies. She also helped me fill in the form.

Soon we received it, and Zakhar put on his first clothes. He was covered with his first warm blanket. The magical little pillow helped him with colic. And of course, the tiny diapers kept him dry.A month later, Vasylinka joined Zakhar and me.I am grateful to everyone who supported us emotionally.

Thank you to the NGO “Early Birds”, because of you my babies were warm, dry, and free from colic. My deepest gratitude to you.Thank you for being there
