Another ambulance delivered to Ukraine. 🚑

After a few days on the road from Switzerland, we reached our destination and handed it over to @samooborona.lviv.

It wouldn’t have come together without the support of Vindobona Foundation, who financed the ambulance, and Hilfe für die Ukraine 8484 - an incredible logistics partner who kept the convoy moving all the way to Ukraine.

This one had a lot of moving pieces, quite literally. Thanks to a real team effort and everyone involved, we can proudly say: Mission accomplished ✅

Zürich hilft der Ukraine (ZhdU) was born in the first days of the full-scale invasion as a spontaneous grassroots effort. A few strangers met online and, from a place of urgency and heart, decided to act for Ukraine.

New shoes inspire new movements!
@zuerich_hilft_der_ukraine successfully delivered such basic but no less essential equipment for patients of @superhumans.center .
We are happy to see that Superhumans feel comfortable in their new @On shoes and wish them to go far in their rehabilitation journey and beyond.

Is it the new workout tutorial for the summer? 🧐

No, it’s better! This is what training sessions look like now for @modrychi patients rehabbing from traumas 💪

The Modrychi Rehabilitation Center is the first recipient of the Luna Physio device produced by @sensopro and delivered to Ukraine by @zuerich_hilft_der_ukraine. Since February, Luna has been of great service to local physiotherapists and freshened up the patients’ routines with new exercises.

"The device is of top quality, we use it constantly in our work," says Oleg Masnyy, the Lead Physiotherapist at Modrychi.

Established in 2015, Modrychi has treated over 4 thousand patients spanning all age groups, with around 10% requiring treatment for severe conditions. Currently, Modrychi cares for around 110 patients. The centre often takes the most difficult cases rejected by other clinics and tries to restore patients’ mobility to the fullest extent possible. Through your generous contributions and support, we could provide Modrychi with a device that makes rehabilitation efforts even more effective! Дякуємо 💙💛

Filling up a truck is an emotional task. Knowing about all the different people that contribute to it is insane. The great support from the Ukrainian Embassy in Bern, institutional donors that entrust us with valuable medical equipment, donors that support ZhdU financially, volunteers that donate their time and heart, people that help us gain visibility on social media, partners in Ukraine that help us coordinate logistics and support us with advice and of course the courageous truck drivers.

The people behind ZhdU have regular jobs and regular lifes. We run our association in 100% unpaid voluntary work. You can imagine how challenging it can be. Having a great team is important when operating in an unpredictable field like humanitarian work. Sticking together even when time gets rough made us not only become a resilient team but also become friends.

Every truck send to Ukraine gives us the energy to continue our work. Every truck makes us thankful for your support. We hope you can see this joy in our little reel. Special thanks to @fkdplublin who made these trucks possible.

Sound on! A message in English from Ukraine! We brought Cardiology and Cardiac Intensive Care Equipment to the National Institute of General and Urgent Surgery to the city of #Kharkiv in Nortneastern Ukraine. The facility in Kharkiv is the only one in the region that provides cardiac surgery care.

Dr. Igor Polivenok, Chief of Cardiac Surgery and Emergent Cardiology and leader of the department, thanks the people of Switzerland, #ZhdU and the volunteers. He explains how the humanitarian delivery from #ZhdU will help people with heart diseases, newborns with heart defects, people that had a heart attack and many more.

The generous donation includes among other items monitors and syringe drivers, both key components for treatment in Intensive Care Units and Post-operative Care. The monitors are used for checking the patient’s vital parameters (heart frequency, oxygen saturation, blood pressure etc.). The syringe drivers are used for the administration of medication in unconscious patients. All equipement was tested and refurbished before sending.

Many thanks to the generous donors of this shipment, including the Canton of Graubünden, Impfzentrum Zug, Dr. Risch Laboratory and the Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève @hug_ge, especially the "Service Pôle Humanitaire" for their trust and the "Service Biomédical et équipement" for checking and testing the medical equipment and devices.

In a war in which individuals can do nothing, we are doing everything together to alleviate the suffering - and have been doing so for almost exactly one year. @zuerich_hilft_der_ukraine started as a grassroots movement a few days after the escalation of the Russian attack on Ukraine in February 2022. The path was often chaotic, accompanied by different feelings and wonderful people.

We started as a walk-in collection point where food, hygiene products and medicine could be donated. In the first months of the war, up to 60 volunteers per day ensured the smooth running of the sorting centre and the associated warehouse. It was noisy, lively and sociable and helped to overcome the faintheartedness. We have had to give up the collection centre due to the extreme decline in donations and have become a well-organised association. We thank everyone who was and is part of this journey.

In the last few months, we have focused heavily on health care. We have formed strong partnerships with hospitals and clinics and are a member of the Swiss Taskforce for Support to the Ukrainian Health Care System.

Matteï Batruch (@matteib), our Co-president of Ukrainian origin from Geneva, is one of the co-founders of “Zuerich hilft der Ukraine ZhdU”. In our video the neurologist talks about how his contacts to the Ukrainian health system and his large medical network benefit the mission of #ZhdU.

Sarah Paciarelli @exilberlinoise ist Mitbegründerin von @zuerich_hilft_der_ukraine. Die Kommunikationsmanagerin hätte nie geglaubt, dass sie über soziale Medien in Echtzeit mit Soldaten im Krieg kommunizieren würde. Besonders berührt hat sie das Schicksal eines Mannes, der bis vor kurzem noch ein ganz normaler Bürger war und uns über unseren Instagram Account regelmässig bewegende Nachrichten zukommen lässt (siehe letzter Post). Sarah ruft dazu auf, diesen unsäglichen Krieg nicht zu vergessen.

Das gesammelte Geld verwenden wir u.a. für in der Ukraine dringend benötigte Medikamente. Als Mitglied der Allianz @hack4health.foundation organisiert #ZhdU u.a. Medizin und sammelt Sachspenden in Form von medizinischem Equipment (wie z.B. Sterilisatoren, Intensivpflegebetten, Röntgengeräte, Rollstühle etc.). Die humanitäre Hilfe bringen wir sicher und direkt zu medizinischem Fachpersonal in die Ukraine.

Die Video-Kampagne wurde durch die grosszügige Pro-Bono-Arbeit von Zürcher Kreativen ermöglicht. Sarah Paciarelli @exilberlinoise ist Mitbegründerin von @zuerich_hilft_der_ukraine. Die Kommunikationsmanagerin hätte nie geglaubt, dass sie über soziale Medien in Echtzeit mit Soldaten im Krieg kommunizieren würde. Besonders berührt hat sie das Schicksal eines Mannes, der bis vor kurzem noch ein ganz normaler Bürger war und uns über unseren Instagram Account regelmässig bewegende Nachrichten zukommen lässt (siehe letzter Post). Sarah ruft dazu auf, diesen unsäglichen Krieg nicht zu vergessen.

Das gesammelte Geld verwenden wir u.a. für in der Ukraine dringend benötigte Medikamente. Als Mitglied der Allianz @hack4health.foundation organisiert #ZhdU u.a. Medizin und sammelt Sachspenden in Form von medizinischem Equipment (wie z.B. Sterilisatoren, Intensivpflegebetten, Röntgengeräte, Rollstühle etc.). Die humanitäre Hilfe bringen wir sicher und direkt zu medizinischem Fachpersonal in die Ukraine.

This 40 tons truck was the one we filled up before leaving our old hub.

We loaded the big 🚛 with wheelchairs, rollator walkers and medical equipment like a x-ray machine, nebulizers (used to administer medication in the form of a mist inhaled into the lungs) and hospital furniture like medical beds.

All humanitarian aid went through the humanitarian corridor and has arrived safely in #Ukraine thanks to the documents #ZhdU receives from the #🇺🇦-Embassy in #Switzerland @botschaftukraineinderschweiz. All donations have arrived and we already received nice pictures with happy recipients in the Ukrainian cities #Magranets, #KryviyRih, #Mykolaiv, and #Vynohradiv and #Kyiv.

To alleviate the suffering caused by war, you have to get creative. In the FORUM program on French-language Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS), the dedicated physician describes what has changed after all these months of war, the wonderful ideas our donors are helping with, and how the Zurich-based volunteer network @Zuerich_hilft_der_Ukraine is adapting to continue supporting war-affected people with vital supplies and saving lives. Preparing another delivery to an Ukrainian orphanage in a hurry? No problem for our nimble volunteers! Thanks to dedicated contacts in Ukraine, Konstantyn and Oleksandr, we were able to deliver humanitarian donations to orphanages for the second time. This time, thanks to the kind support of the @foundation_orphanhealthcare, we were able to add a few boxes of toys on top.

Konstantyn, who personally picked up the food, baby formula, hygiene products for mother and child and clothes from us in Zurich and transported them to Ukraine the first time, wrote after his long car ride: "I came home in the evening exhausted. Exhausted from 21 hours of driving from Switzerland via Poland to Ukraine, from problems with the car on the way, from loading and unloading. In these days exhaustion means nothing. Motivation means. The visits to the orphanages made me realize that what is done is not enough. Faith can and will do more. I am deeply moved by what the #ZhdU team is doing. I met @paul.mup, your Co-President, I shook his hand. Watching him haul heavy generators, pack goods, organize people, and still find a minute to wish us a good trip. Deeply moving."

Our priority is food, hygiene products, medicines and medical equipment. All medical donations are sorted and prepared for export to Ukraine by medical professionals only. Thanks to our partner @foundation_orphanhealthcare (a foundation that just launched @we4ukraine.ch in order to help Ukranian children and families with severe or rare diseases) we have great facilities where we can collect donations. More than CHF 30’000 worth of medical equipment, being sorted under supervision of four medical professionals in our humanitarian hub in Zürich.

Thanks to a generous private donor, the vaccination centre in Zug and the pharmacy @dr.andres.apotheke.stadelhofen a huge amount of medicine worth more than 30’000 CHF came together.

We are a big volunteer network called @zuerich_hilft_der_ukraine! We collect donations and ship them directly to Ukraine safely and legally, in cooperation with @botschaftukraineinderschweiz. Our priority is food, hygiene products, medicines and medical equipment. All medical donations are sorted and prepared for export to Ukraine by medical professionals only.
