In 2024, ZhdU received the Order of Saint Panteleimon as a Swiss organization that has made a significant contribution to supporting healthcare in Ukraine.

Spital Zollikerberg @spitalzollikerberg was one of our first partner hospitals and since 2022 it has donated tonnes of medical supplies for which we provided transportation to Ukraine.

Yesterday, Zurich hilft der Ukraine and Zollikerberg team worked on loading another 3-tonne truck with medical mattresses, beds, trolleys, wheelchairs, etc.

In times of uncertainties, we believe that it's crucial to maintain reliable partnership and continue to support the healthcare 💙💛

Spital Zollikerberg @spitalzollikerberg was one of our first partner hospitals and since 2022 it has donated tonnes of medical supplies for which we provided transportation to Ukraine.

On Monday, February 24th, marking the third year of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, we gathered in Zurich to deliver a strong message of unity and unwavering support for Ukraine. 🇺🇦
The solidarity demonstration, organised by @helvetiaforukraine and @real_ukrainianswitzerland , took us from Helvetiaplatz to Rathausbrücke, where we stood together in solidarity. 🇺🇦 🇨🇭
We are incredibly grateful for the strong support shown by the people of Switzerland. However, both the Ukrainian Association in Switzerland and Helvetia for Ukraine called for an even greater and more lasting commitment to Ukraine.

The speeches from @luziatschirky, @widmerceline (National Councillor, SP), @perparim.avdili (Municipal Councillor & President of FDP Zurich), and Halyna Petrosaniak (Ukrainian poet, translator, and literary critic) inspired us all to continue the fight for Ukraine.

It's this time of the year again when Zuerich hilft der Ukraine and partners join efforts to gift warmth to Ukrainian babies and their families 🎄

For the third year in row, we are running the project "Fit for Winter" with @ranni_ptashky to provide the winter support packages for prematurely born babies in Ukraine.

The life continues in 🇺🇦 and in the first 9 months of this year over 134,000 babies were born in Ukraine. Among them are nearly 8,500 “early birds”. This winter, they face additional hardship as Russia keeps destroying Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leaving homes in the dark and cold.

🎁 During last 2 years we supported nearly 500 newborns with essentials for the cold times – blankets, sleeping bags, heaters, clothes, and basic hygiene products. Please help us in supporting even more newborns and their families this year with the donation of 50 CHF:

Alongside fellow speaker Tobias Privitelli, who discussed GICHD’ critical work of demining in Ukraine, @matteib shared insights on @zuerich_hilft_der_ukraine ongoing humanitarian projects and mission.

The discussion was moderated by the esteemed war correspondent @luziatschirky, who guided the conversation with engaging and thought-provoking questions. The event closed with uplifting music by the ‚Ukulele Orchestra,‘ adding a hopeful tone to the evening.

“We will never stop fighting for a world where hospitals are safe, where children are protected, and where Ukraine is free.” ZhdU Co-President Mattei Batruch joined the pro-Ukrainian demonstration organised by @helvetiaforukraine, @uvzoverein, @dopomozhemore on July 12 in response to Russian attack on Ohmatdyt hospital. There @matteib gave a powerful speech as a doctor, a colleague and friend of those brave people who faced an unimaginable horror.

Last Monday, the walls of @ohmatdyt, which had witnessed countless renovations since its founding 130 years ago, were stained with the blood of innocents.

That attack was not just an assault on a building; it was an attack on humanity itself.

It was an attempt to break the spirit of Ukrainians and their supporters.

Yet, on that rainy Friday, demonstrators stood united, upholding the principles that bind us as human beings—compassion, dignity, and the inviolable right to life.

On the 8th of July, Russia launched a devastating attack on several major cities in Ukraine.

One of the direct targets was the @ohmatdyt children’s hospital in the centre of Kyiv. At the moment of the attack, there were over 600 people in the hospital.

ZhdU Team member @itsyaezmin, who has been in Ukraine at time of the attacks, promptly made her way to the site to extend the entire ZhdU team’s support.

„The extent of the destruction is beyond our ability to describe in words. It is deeply distressing to learn that a place that primarily cares for children has been the target of such an attack. I am still struggling to comprehend what has occurred in the wake of this tragedy.
I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved and our partners at Ohmatdyt, and on behalf of the entire ZhdU team, I reiterate our commitment to providing comprehensive assistance during this challenging period.“ - @itsyaezmin

In total 24 departments are damaged: including 10 surgical departments, 5 oncology departments, 3 intensive care units, 2 operating blocks, 2 somatic departments, the radiology department, prenatal care department and the radiation therapy department.

@unbroken.ukraine provides a variety of services including treatment, prosthetics, physical and psychological rehabilitation, housing and reintegration.

The centre provides care not only for serving Ukrainians, but also for all civilians 💙💛

Meanwhile, ZhdU is keeping track of the @on shoes delivered by us to @superhumans.center in April 🏃‍♂

We are happy to see that the shoes are already being used extensively for the therapy and rehabilitation of patients.

We were also able to gain an insight into a variety of new technologies such as their in-house 3D prosthetic printing. Manufacturing locally in the prosthetic laboratory enables quick usage and provides children and adults a chance for living a decent life.

We are proud to make a contribution to these superheroes 🦸

🚕 Trotz einer erneuten Angriffswelle durch den Russischen Staat, erreichte das @zuerich_hilft_der_ukraine Teammitglied Yasmin Urbani, zusammen mit der Organisation @ukrainehilfemitherz , Kharkiv.

📍Es galt der Lieferung Humanitärer Hilfe, sowie der Sicherstellung, dass die gespendeten Güter sicher and der vorgesehenen Destination angekommen sind.

📍Bei der Ankunft im Partnerspital wurde das Team herzlich, durch den Leiter der Kardiologie Abteilung, in Empfang genommen.
Kurz darauf waren wir in der Lage die Betten, welche von uns im Februar 2024 geliefert wurden, zu begutachten.

📍Laut Aussage des Spitales und deren Mitarbeiter sind die Betten und deren zusätzlichen Komponenten von grosser Bedeutung, in deren täglichen Gefecht.

📍Das Spital befindet sich momentan nicht nur im Kampf gegen Russland, sondern auch gegen diverse folgeprobleme wie mehrmals täglich Stromausfälle, Personalmangel und Patientenüberlastung.
Der Mangel an Medikamenten ist eine tägliche Thematik und stetiges Problem.

🙏 Die Wertschätzung, sowie positive Auswirkung der Spenden und Unterstützung ist klar zu erkennen.

Hospitals in Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region are the main recipients of our medical donations.

Despite massive russian attacks, the ZhdU team member Yasmin and UkrainehilfemitHerz arrived there last month to deliver humanitarian aid and ensure that the donated goods arrived at the designated location.

Upon arrival at the partner hospital, the team was warmly welcomed by the head of the cardiology department. Afterwards, we were enabled to inspect the beds delivered by us in February 2024.

According to the hospital and its staff, the beds and the additional medical components are of utmost importance in their daily fight.

The hospital is currently not only fighting against the enemy but also against blackouts several times a day, personnel shortages and patient overload caused by the ongoing war. The shortage of medical supplies is a daily issue.

The appreciation and the impact resulting from our donations and support could be clearly seen.

Supershoes for Superhumans 🦸‍♂

ZhdU is honoured to be a logistics partner for this inspiring collaboration between @on and @superhumans.center.

No, it’s better! This is what training sessions look like now for @modrychi patients rehabbing from traumas 💪

The Modrychi Rehabilitation Center is the first recipient of the Luna Physio device produced by @sensopro and delivered to Ukraine by @zuerich_hilft_der_ukraine. Since February, Luna has been of great service to local physiotherapists and freshened up the patients’ routines with new exercises.

"The device is of top quality, we use it constantly in our work," says Oleg Masnyy, the Lead Physiotherapist at Modrychi.

Established in 2015, Modrychi has treated over 4 thousand patients spanning all age groups, with around 10% requiring treatment for severe conditions. Currently, Modrychi cares for around 110 patients. The centre often takes the most difficult cases rejected by other clinics and tries to restore patients’ mobility to the fullest extent possible. ZhdU has won the trust of Swiss hospitals and some of them are ready to continuously support Ukrainian counterparts with materials. We take the challenge to organise the transportation of these valuable donations from Switzerland to Ukraine, but we need your help to cover the costs of fuel and the work of drivers. In partnership with ZhdU, the @hug_ge not only supplied these refurbished beds in perfect condition, but also provided the transport, participated in financing (along with private donors) and logistical support required for this large-scale humanitarian operation.

Es wird mitgeführt, um die wichtigsten Verletzungen oder Todesursachen schnell versorgen zu können und besteht aus zahlreichen Komponenten, zum Beispiel Sicherheitsnadeln, Pflaster, Mullbinden, Schnellverbände, Beatmungsmasken, Handschuhe und einer Schere und mehr. Von A wie ACE-Hemmer bis Z wie Zytostatika waren fast alle Medikamentengruppen vorhanden. @itsyaezmin hat die sortierten und beschrifteten Boxen bei @exilberlinoise abgeholt. Heute werden sie in den gelben Sprinter der Basler Initiative @ukrainehilfemitherz verladen und in die Ukraine gebracht. Vielen herzlichen Dank! 💙💛🚛🙏

Wir haben mit @ukrainehilfemitherz zusammengespannt! Yasmin Urbani @itsyaezmin hat gestern etliche Kartons Medikamente bei uns abgeholt. Der Basler Verein fährt regelmässig in die Ukraine. Auf seinen Touren bringt Gründer Marcel Medikamente und medizinische Güter in die Ukraine. Auch Yazmin hat Marcel schon etliche Male in die Ukraine begleitet. Wir wünschen beiden eine sichere Reise.

P.S. Der engagierte Schweizer und seine Frau Michelle bezahlen die Touren in die Ukraine weitgehend aus eigener Tasche und sind dringend auf Spenden angewiesen, um ihre wichtige Arbeit fortführen zu können. Auch @zuerich_hilft_der_ukraine hat sich mit einem Beitrag an den Transportkosten der aktuellen Tour beteiligt. Wir haben mit @ukrainehilfemitherz zusammengespannt! Yasmin Urbani @itsyaezmin hat gestern etliche Kartons Medikamente bei uns abgeholt. Der Basler Verein fährt regelmässig in die Ukraine. Auf seinen Touren bringt Gründer Marcel Medikamente und medizinische Güter in die Ukraine. Auch Yazmin hat Marcel schon etliche Male in die Ukraine begleitet. Wir wünschen beiden eine sichere Reise.

Have you ever heard of #NAFO, the North Atlantic #Fella Organization? It is an Internet meme and social media movement dedicated to countering Russian propaganda and disinformation about the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. The squad of Twitter users who use silly dog memes as their avatars and make life difficult for the Russian propagandists across the internet are doing a great job fighting fake news and dismantling disinformation. Branding themselves as “fellas” of the so-called North Atlantic Fella Organization (NAFO, not NATO) they have struck upon a funny yet effective way to fight on the information frontlines, while also collecting donations.

We are thankful and proud that we got invited to the Networking Event of the Swiss NAFO #Fellas in order to present our new humanitarian project. Our board members @matteib and @exilberlinoise met the Organisator Philipp (in the middle of the picture, holding our project flyer) and lots of other interesting people this weekend. Die Schweizer Taskforce zur Unterstützung für das ukrainische Gesundheitswesen, zu der auch @zuerich_hilft_der_ukraine gehört,
lanciert ein Hilfsprojekt zugunsten einer Rehabilitationsklinik und eines Kinderspitals
in der Ukraine. Mit der Initiative sollen CHF 20 000 an Spenden für Luna Physio, Trainingsgerät des Schweizer Herstellers Sensopro, gesammelt werden.

An zwei Orten in der Ukraine wäre es von grosser Hilfe: Im Rehabilitationszentrum @modrychi (Truskavets) sowie im Kinderspital @ohmatdyt (Kiew). In Modrychi werden derzeit 110 Patient:innen beherbergt. Das Zentrum ist auf die Rehabilitation nach Hirntraumata, Rückenmarksverletzungen usw. spezialisiert. Mithilfe von Luna Physio werden auch die medizinischen Fachkräfte des Kinderspitals Ohmatdyt in der Lage sein, jährlich fast 10 000 Kindern eine qualitativ hochwertige Rehabilitation zu bieten und die Rückkehr in eine lebendige Kindheit zu ermöglichen.

He visited not only our local partner organisations, but also some of the places that are beneficiaries of ZhdU donations (and was even accompanied by a documentary film team). One of them is Modrychi Rehabilitation Center. Currently, it accommodates 110 patients with the goal to restore their mobility at maximum. During his trip @matteib met also with Oleg Masnyy, Head of Medical Rehabilitation in Modrychi. Great news to come! Stay tuned!

Parts of it where for the Children policlinic number 14 and policlinic number 8 in the City of #Kharkiv. We are happy to see that the support from Switzerland arrived where it’s needed.

The city of Kharkiv is located just 30 kilometres south of the Russian-Ukrainian border and is the second-largest city in Ukraine. It was considered a major target for the Russian military early in the days of the full scale invasion. During the #BattleofKharkiv, at least 606 civilians were killed due to Russian shelling and fighting for the city, Ukrainian authorities said. Places located so close to the frontline need humanitarian help badly. The great support from the Ukrainian Embassy in Bern, institutional donors that entrust us with valuable medical equipment, donors that support ZhdU financially, volunteers that donate their time and heart, people that help us gain visibility on social media, partners in Ukraine that help us coordinate logistics and support us with advice and of course the courageous truck drivers.

The people behind ZhdU have regular jobs and regular lifes. We run our association in 100% unpaid voluntary work. You can imagine how challenging it can be. Having a great team is important when operating in an unpredictable field like humanitarian work. Sticking together even when time gets rough made us not only become a resilient team but also become friends.

While our trucks where on their way to #Ukraine, the civilian infrastructure of #KryvyiRih was attacked by Russian missiles and Southeastern Ukraine, where the destruction of the #Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant led to extensive flooding that created an environmental and humanitarian disaster was (and still is!) under water. The #humanitarian crisis in Ukraine gets worse, with hundreds of thousands of internally displaced persons that lost home and sometimes more than that. The three trucks we filled up on the 10th of June have arrived safely in Ukraine. The generators are brought to #Kherson where they will provide energy for households, but also soldiers and rescue forces in the flooded region.

The medical aid was delivered to two of our cooperation partners. The #Kyiv based organisation «Children-Victims of the War» @childrenvictims_ofthewar was founded to provide care for war-affected children in the East of Ukraine, displaced families in difficult conditions, large and crisis families, orphanages, boarding schools. The #Lviv based organisation «Samooborona» @samooborona.lviv collects humanitarian aid from abroad and provides aid to the Ukrainian Military, assistance to medical institutions and civilians. Both organisations will distribute the humanitarian aid brought by #ZhdU where it’s needed the most. Special thanks to @fkdplublin that made these trucks possible.

Das ist Generator Man. Der Maschinenbauingenieur hat @zuerich_hilft_der_ukraine bereits 39 (!!!) Stromgeneratoren gespendet. Die letzten zehn haben wir persönlich bei ihm abgeholt. Sie werden in wenigen Tagen in #Kherson ankommen und dort im überschwemmten Gebiet zum Einsatz kommen.

Die benzinbetriebenen Stromgeneratoren ersteigert der Mann, der eigentlich Oliver heisst, online auf Plattformen oder in Foren für Kleinanzeigen. «Die Idee kam spontan, da die Stromversorgung in vielen Gebieten der #Ukraine kollabierte und Stromgeneratoren laut #ZhdU benötigt wurden», so Oliver.

Die Generatoren funktionieren oft nicht (richtig) und weisen leichtere Defekte auf, wie zum Beispiel einen verstopften Vergaser, verstopfte Luft- oder Benzinfilter, ein gerisseses Starterseil etc.
Oliver bestellt die nötigen Ersatzteile, führt die Reparaturen duch, wechselt Öl und Kerze, stelle den Vergaser ein und misst die Ausgangsspannung ohne und mit Last. Zum Schluss montiert er noch Räder, denn die Generatoren sind mitunter bis zu 50kg schwer. Die Generatoren haben ca. 2 – 2.5 KW elektrische Leistung. Eine Anleitung in Englisch und Ukrainisch sowie einige Ersatzteile gibt der engagierte ZhdU-Spender jedem seiner Generatoren mit auf den Weg.

Olivers Solidarität rettet leben. Sie hält warm, liefert Strom für Nahrungszubereitung und Kommunikation. Unter Soldaten sind die Generatoren besonders beliebt. Das haben auch Vertreter der Ukrainischen Streitkräfte erkannt. Zwei verschiedene Einheiten haben dem Generator Man aus Zürich und ZhdU in Urkunden ihre Dankbarkeit ausgedrückt.

Für den Vater zweier Kinder steht der Zusammenhalt in seiner Familie an erster Stelle. Sound on! A message in Ukrainian (for English see previous post) from Ukraine! We brought Cardiology and Cardiac Intensive Care Equipment to the National Institute of General and Urgent Surgery to the city of #Kharkiv in Nortneastern Ukraine. The facility in Kharkiv is the only one in the region that provides cardiac surgery care.

On June 6, an explosion caused significant damage to the central section of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station resulting in uncontrolled water flow downstream that flooded wide parts of Southern Ukraine. Today the people of #Zürich stand together to raise awareness to the #Ecocide.

The destruction of the #Kakhovka Dam has catastrophic humanitarian and environmental consequences. The massive flooding will pose to the environment, as well as to energy and food security. The consequences are catastrophic. More than 40,000 people have been affected. Homes and infrastructure have been destroyed, land has become unsuitable for agriculture, and water supply has been disrupted.

The manifestation and following #marchforukraine organised by @helvetiaforukraine today raised awareness to this horrible event. @yeevheniia spoke to the people #standingwithukraine today, delivering a message from a girl from #Kherson, explaining that the 6th of June, when the flood began, felt like a second 24 February 2022, the day of the full-scale invasion and aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. More and more terrible news from #Ukraine, most recently about the destruction of the #Kachowka dam near #Kherson in southern Ukraine. After the dam in the Ukrainian region of Kherson was damaged, water is flowing uncontrollably out of the reservoir. Several localities, including part of the large city of Kherson, downstream of the #Dnipro River are threatened by flooding. The Kherson Oblast Administration has announced an emergency evacuation. Many people will need medical assistance. With our humanitarian work, we are alleviating the need and supporting medical professionals in Ukraine.

On 27 May, we sent a truck with equipment for intensive care units and laboratory supplies worth CHF 800,000 to Ukraine. Together with #ZhdU volunteers @valentynbez and @aniakatarzyna1 we loaded important medical aid onto the truck. Thank you for your support!

The recipients include hospitals, clinics and veterinarians in #Kramatorsk, #Rivne, #Chernihiv, #Lviv, #Odessa, #Kharkiv and near the frontline.
