These days, in Ukraine blackouts come without any warning and they do not spare hospitals. Just imagine being in the middle of surgery under anaesthesia when suddenly the power goes out... then reliable equipment makes all the difference.

That's why, together with @draeger.global we helped bring 17 Primus IE anaesthesia workstations to Ukrainian hospitals. While Dräger provided the equipment, we at ZhdU handled matching process, logistics, and transport. These high-quality systems can support adult, paediatric, and neonatal patients even under unstable conditions.

This equipment, once used in Switzerland, is now beginning a new chapter in Ukraine. At ZhdU, we often say that what is no longer needed in one place can continue to save lives elsewhere. Extending the lifespan of medical equipment and maximising the impact of healthcare resources is one of the sustainability principles we proudly share with Dräger.

This ZhdU transport was a little different.

We delivered around 5 tonnes of decommissioned computing equipment donated by the CMS Collaboration @cmsexperiment at @cern to two Ukrainian scientific institutions:

🎓 National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology” and
🎓 Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv @knu_uni (Faculty of Physics – Department of Nuclear and High Energy Physics).

This donation is the result of international cooperation in support of scientific research, and we’re proud to have been trusted with delivering it to Ukraine.

Thank you to @kabbrandschutz for donating these extremely needed evacuation chairs to Ukrainian institutions!

Instead of disposing of equipment that has reached its service-life limit in Switzerland, each chair is carefully inspected and serviced before being entrusted to us. We then work with our partners in Ukraine to identify the needs and organize delivery to the people and facilities that can benefit the most.

Designed to safely transport people with limited mobility down staircases during emergencies, these evacuation chairs can make a critical difference when elevators are out of service due to power outages or air raid alerts.

Combining sustainability with solidarity is a perfect example of meaningful support.

We partnered with the @relief_coordination_centre, which implements the STEEL initiative (Safe Transport for Emergency Evacuations and Logistics). Within this network, the @haystov Charitable Foundation, a Kharkiv-based non-profit, supports civilians affected by the war - particularly elderly people, persons with disabilities, and families with children - through evacuation and frontline assistance.

A big thank you to K.A.B. Brandschutz for making this possible. 🇨🇭🤝🇺🇦

This week, we were incredibly proud and honoured to receive a Certificate of Appreciation from the Embassy of Ukraine to the Swiss Confederation. It means a lot to us to be recognised among other organisations and individuals supporting Ukraine, standing in solidarity with its people, and upholding the values of freedom, democracy, and international law.

It’s natural to upgrade, update and develop infrastructure. It helps companies become more efficient and makes everyday work smoother and faster. More and more companies are moving toward sustainability, choosing solutions that support that mission. But sustainability is also about what happens next and what we do with equipment that’s no longer needed.

For WZR Weiterbildungszentrum Rorschach-Rheintal @wzr_rorschach_rheintal the next natural step was to give a second life to 95 computers and 30 monitors that no longer met internal requirements but were fully functional.

Instead of disposal, WZR redirected these devices to create real impact and support Ukrainian institutions.

This is not only a textbook example of corporate responsibility toward the environment, but also of support for communities in need. Thanks to WZR, these devices are now supporting daily work and patient care in hospitals in Barvinkove, Bohodukhiv (Kharkiv region), as well as everyday learning in educational institutions in Chernihiv and Lviv:

Oops, we did it again! 🤭

Another ambulance delivered to Ukraine. 🚑

After a few days on the road from Switzerland, we reached our destination and handed it over to @samooborona.lviv.

It wouldn’t have come together without the support of Vindobona Foundation, who financed the ambulance, and Hilfe für die Ukraine 8484 - an incredible logistics partner who kept the convoy moving all the way to Ukraine.

This one had a lot of moving pieces, quite literally. Thanks to a real team effort and everyone involved, we can proudly say: Mission accomplished ✅

Zürich hilft der Ukraine (ZhdU) was born in the first days of the full-scale invasion as a spontaneous grassroots effort. A few strangers met online and, from a place of urgency and heart, decided to act for Ukraine.

At the end of December, we sent our ninth and final truck of 2025 with humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Thanks to the generosity of @psychiatrische_dienste_aargau, the truck carried 25 medical beds, which we delivered to three hospitals in Odesa, Sumy, and Poltava. These beds will give patients greater comfort and support medical staff in their daily work.

Spital Zollikerberg @spitalzollikerberg was one of our first partner hospitals and since 2022 it has donated tonnes of medical supplies for which we provided transportation to Ukraine.

Yesterday, Zurich hilft der Ukraine and Zollikerberg team worked on loading another 3-tonne truck with medical mattresses, beds, trolleys, wheelchairs, etc.

In times of uncertainties, we believe that it's crucial to maintain reliable partnership and continue to support the healthcare 💙💛

Spital Zollikerberg @spitalzollikerberg was one of our first partner hospitals and since 2022 it has donated tonnes of medical supplies for which we provided transportation to Ukraine.

The solidarity demonstration, organised by @helvetiaforukraine and @real_ukrainianswitzerland , took us from Helvetiaplatz to Rathausbrücke, where we stood together in solidarity. 🇺🇦 🇨🇭
We are incredibly grateful for the strong support shown by the people of Switzerland. However, both the Ukrainian Association in Switzerland and Helvetia for Ukraine called for an even greater and more lasting commitment to Ukraine.

The speeches from @luziatschirky, @widmerceline (National Councillor, SP), @perparim.avdili (Municipal Councillor & President of FDP Zurich), and Halyna Petrosaniak (Ukrainian poet, translator, and literary critic) inspired us all to continue the fight for Ukraine.

„It is heartwarming to see Zurich mobilize itself to show what it stands for: solidarity and humanity,“ stated @matteib , ZhdU Co-President.

It is an honour for us to be the first Swiss organization receiving this award. The award event was held at the Embassy of Ukraine in Switzerland which provided us a warm reception.

We believe that it is an award not only for our small team but also for many individuals who have made our mission possible.

Each shipment of medical goods to hospitals in Ukraine involves up to 50 individuals per truck and this unity can be recognized as the modern-day miracle that heals and saves lives. Thank you to everyone who stay united with us all the way long. This award belong to all of you 💛💙
